It was a battle from start to finish but our guys couldn't quite handle Arlington Celtic in the final game of the Fall 2009 season.  In a back and forth match, we lost to a late goal and very questionable officiating by a score of 4-3.  On the bright side, we finally turned out a very good

performance on the offensive side of the ball.  New BBFC signing David Rosenbaum is the total package up top and caused trouble for the opposition all day long and was unlucky not to get a hat trick.  Still, the two goals he converted were quality and a welcome change of pace for us as we have had plenty of trouble finishing this season.  Sonny Rajlawat also added a great goal to cement his place as the team's leading goal-scorer for the season and looked strong offensively.

On a negative note, all season long it has been the stingy Barra defense that has lead the team to success.  But unfortunately, in this final and most important game, the defense let ourselves down by giving up a pair of goals that can only be attributed to carelessness.  Just as the offense started clicking, we defenders let the team down and gave up nearly as many goals in this game as we had in the previous seven games.  So it was quite disappointing to enter the match with a chance to win the championship and to leave empty handed.  But now that the season is over we will begin building on the significant progress that we certainly did make this year.

Overall, we didn't achieve our optimistic goals.  But I am still pleased with how everything is shaping up.  Despite our 3rd place finish, we are without a doubt a significantly better team than last year.  We've added some tremendous players who, while being very good technically, bring to the table much better knowledge of how and when to play based on their higher level of experience.  I would say that over half of our team now has played NCAA soccer and we are going to continue to recruit players that have played at higher levels because the improvement in overall team play is without doubt.

The results will come, we completely overhauled the squad this past summer and had about 2/3 of the team as new players.  It takes some time to get used to playing with each other but things have started to come together and we expect that to continue with even better results next Spring.  Our goal is simple.  We will earn promoting to Division 1 by Fall 2010.

In the meantime, we will continue to train and even play a bit of indoor over the winter to stay fit while continuing to search for quality players that can come in and make a difference.  As such, if you or anyone you know has played collegiate level ball and is looking for an ambitious and competitive team, please have them contact me.  Thanks to everyone for the support and don't forget to follow our Select team as they look to win their division championship!  More information can be found
