Men gave thanks. Women cried. Legions of fans rejoiced. It was a gritty performance by the Barra Bhoys who had to shake off the rust of three weeks without a competitive match. After sleepwalking through most of the first half and entering halftime down by a goal, the second half proved to be a different story upon the arrival of center midfield maestro, the super-est of all superstars, Omar Ali. Shaking fool’s at will and tooling defenders for fun, Omar made an immediate impact in settling the game down and getting BBFC back to their style of play. We maintained better possession and strung together sequences of passes which ultimately resulted in a number of good chances on goal. The first goal came off a superb cross from Ouadie Benyoussef and an even better finish by Denis Mittakarin who first timed the ball just inside the near post. Ali then had a direct hand in each of the next two goals, one an own goal off a perfectly placed free kick by Ali and the other a Andy Ludwig finish off another great cross from the left. The rest was left to Ryan Rose and the defense who managed to hold off the Eagles and seal the win. All-in-all, it was an imperfect win but a win nonetheless and in games like these, it’s the result that counts. The super special Barra Brava Brownie Achievement Badge goes to the fabulous referee. You may be ref’ing with 2006 certification and you may not be able to pass a fitness test and you may like to give yellow cards to team captains that colorfully point out your mistakes, but in the Barra Brava, you, sir have a friend indeed! |
